I saw Sweeney Todd the other night, it was fantastic!
I want to see Walk Hard next--has anyone seen it yet?

Sweeney Todd was goooood. I absolutely loved it! I think it was helped by the fact that I got to screen it two weeks before it came out and got to sit in the roped off 'Press Section'. ;D
'The Mist' was a horrible piece of shit but other than that, I haven't been to the movies since the ST screening.

I saw Atonement. Whoa! Awesome scenes in that movie and some excellent acting and cinematography. Also, Golden Compass. Man, can that Nicole Kidman play a byotch! Definite suspension of reality. Heard the book is darker and heavier but am loving the film!
Glad to hear you liked Sweeney Todd. I wanna see it. I heard JD sounds like David Bowie.
Have plans to see No Country for Old Men. That is one helluva writer that Cormac McCarthy. I dread/anticipate someone making a movie of The Road. Chilling novel and well worth the hour or two it takes to read it.

No Country for Old Men was awesome. Just ab-so-f#ckin-lutely fantastic. Can't recommend it enough. I've seen it twice, it was just as suspenseful and enjoyable the second time, and I "got" the ending on the second try. The Coen brothers are amazing. I need to collect their movies.
Golden Compass was a lot of fun, I thought. I don't get what the controversy was about, though. I can't wait to read the book.
I also saw I Am Legend. Wow, it was very nicely done.

Loving the Coen Bros too and thanks for getting me to NCfOM, I heard it was dark and a little depressing. Is it the new Scarface?

I really want to check out The Road and No Country...I've heard that he's up there as far as modern fiction writers go (I usually stick to the classics or non-fiction, although I do so love Tom Robbins) and that has my curiosity piqued.
I haven't seen I Am Legend, never will. From what I've heard, it was NOTHING like the book and that breaks my heart. I even read some reviews where the vampires were referred to as "zombies"? So, to me, it just sounds like they did a remake of Omega Man. Gah...just, gah.
And I feel as though it is my duty to go see Walk Hard. I must accomplish this over the weekend.

You must see Walk Hard: Just a hunch, but I think you'll like Elvis, just a little. I so love John C. Reilly (ever seen him on "Tim and Eric, Awesome Show, Great Job"? Brules rules!). And Tim Meadows was fantastic too. It was funny as hell--a little stupid, but it was worth it.
I have to confess I have never seen Scarface. Shame on me. But No Country was beautiful on so many levels. And the character Anton Chigurh was so creepy and scary. Yes, it's dark and a little depressing in some ways, but it's also exciting and suspenseful, and then, the Coen Bros. just put together this complete world/look to it. It's definitely worth watching.
I haven't read "I Am Legend" either, maybe I enjoyed it a lot more because of that. Plus the whole isolation thing really touched a nerve in me.
I'm just guessing, but I think the vampires/zombies mix up was that they were trying to make the virus-caused vampirism seem more plausible, so they weren't immediately recognizable as vampires. And, I think the reviewers who called them "zombies" may have been in the restroom during the scenes where the movie showed them burning up in UV light, and going after blood. In the movie, these people were reduced to a rabid animal state, a la the "zombies" (if that's what they were) in "28 Days Later" (fantastic movie--I can't wait to check out "Sunshine").
All in all, I loved the movie, but I didn't have a book to compare it to. I am usually disappointed when I do that anyway.
