I have recently seen The Departed, which was excellent and also Stranger than Fiction, which was really good. Tomorrow is our Christmas party at work and we're going to see the Holiday, so we'll see how that one is.

I wasted a shitload of money seeing "Pursuit of Happyness"
We thought it would be a feel good flick--perfect for a Saturday on a weekend getaway. There we were with our huge sodas, ginormous popcorn bucket complete with milk duds mixed in for that perfect salty/sweet combo...
2 freecan hours of watching this man get pushed further and further down.... and in the last 5 mintues white text on the screen gives you the 'happyness' part. What a fucking downer...
Don't even waste your money to rent this one.

I saw the Holiday, it was OK, but not great. I guess I'm just really not a fan of Cameron Diaz or Jude Law, so maybe that did it for me...or maybe just that it was a little too predictable.

I would recommend the following:
Casino Royale: I know, it's James Bond, but I don't like James Bond and I was very pleasantly surprised.
Night At The Museum: It's not the greatest film ever, but it's the most enjoyable one I've seen in the last couple of weeks.
Happy Feet: Cute and entertaining. An ok way to kill a couple of hours. Not my first choice, but given the group to pick from, it's ok.
Others I've seen in the last few weeks (but not crazy about) are:
The Good Shepherd: Three hours of YAWN. Apocalypto: Not a bad film, but definitely not enjoyable. While it was interesting and semi well-made, it was extremely harsh and violent, too much so IMHO.
I'm afraid to go see Charlotte's Web. I've heard several critics express surprise and happiness that they didn't ruin it, but from all the previews and excerpts I've seen/heard so far, I can't see how that's possible.
I was also afraid to see the Pursuit of Happyness, GH. I figured it would be a downer, but there would be some kind of upside. From what you say, I'm so glad I didn't go see it.
Others I'm looking forward to: 1. Children of Men 2. Letters from Iwo Jima
I wish some good comedies were coming out soon. It seems like everything good lately is gloom and doom, as far as movies go.

I am also looking forward to Children of Men. I wanted to see Stranger than Fiction but it was gone by the time I had time to see a flick. Happyness didn't appeal to me and now I am glad after reading GHs review. Happy New Year to All

You know what else I'd like to see? Dream Girls. But nobody will go see it with me. And they all laugh at me. Boo hoo, poor me.

I'm so far behind on movies, and I haven't been to the theater since The Ring came out. We have Netflix, which is easy to just get movies in the mail, but it takes us forever to get new movies. The last batch of movies we watched were Thank You for Smoking, which was alright. Ice Age 2 for the kiddie, which was cute. And Click, which I liked, but was also annoyed with. It made me cry, when I thought it was going to be a comedy, and it caught me off guard when I was really in the mood for a light-hearted comedy.
Movies that are in the theater or close to coming out that I'm looking forward to seeing in two years (lol) are Notes on a Scandle (the commercial hooked me, now I must know the scandle), Happy Feet for the kiddie, and the new Harry Potter whenever that comes out.
Thanks for the warning on the Pursuit of Happyness, GH.
