DO I get rid of a virus when everytime I try to run my Spybot, it the virus closes it, or when I go to norton's website to download updates, it closes my browser, or when I try to change my security settings, it closes my browser?
I FUCKING HATE people who invent these viruses.
Anybody have any ideas?

You need to speak with my husband. He is the anti-virus. Is it cool if I have him call you later?

I tried other anti virus places when that happened. If you are on dial up you need a couple. I used to have Adaware as well as Spybot and another virus killer that kicked some ass. I'll try and find it and send you the info on it. After cable modem, I haven't had any problems like that.

I have adaware, and have run it a couple of times, but its still messed up. When I try to run my spybot, it won't work. Bastards! I went to the Microsoft website and ran a scan, but nothing turned up, I KNOW ITS THERE!! Something's seriously wrong here.

Is this called " win fixer " by any chance? (spaces added because I don't know how I got it in the first place and I am afraid of it)
I had that virus/spyware and it would NOT come off of my hard drive. I tried removing it from the registry and my cookies, I tried using the windows anti spyware and my anti virus (mcaffee)--nothing worked. I had to wipe my hard drive and restore the system to its factory state. Luckily I had a second hard drive to which I could move data I knew was safe. But that's what it took.
I hope you find the answer and don't have to do that, but it actually helped me after months of suffering with this BS.

How do I know what it's called? I went to the Norton website and they have all these fixer tools for different viruses, but I didn't know which one to download cuz I don't know what I have.

I found this, Kata. Hope it helps.
"Why is CWShredder closing suddenly when I run it?
There are a few CWS trojans, as well as newer viruses, that attempt to close CWShredder, HijackThis, Spybot S&D, Ad-aware and a handful of antispyware programs and online help forums when you try to open them. To counter this, CWShredder has been updated. Start it again when it suddenly closes and it should work. If it still doesn't work, download PepiMK's CoolWWWSearch.Smartsearch killer and run that first, then use CWShredder to clean up. If the Smartsearch killer does not help, ask for help on a forum with removing a resident trojan. "

THanks, MZD for the tips....I think it might have worked. I still can't start Spybot, but everything else seems like it's back to normal.

I lied, it's still fucked.
I did what you said MZD and I was able to download CWShredder, but when I first pulled it up it tells me that it found a variation of the CoolWebsearch thingy on my system so it had to restart, so then it did and then it did the scan and said it found nothing on my system, right after it got done telling me it did find something. Whatever.

Kata, I have an extra hard drive you can borrow if you want to try to save your data and restore your system. Let me know, I can help. It's a pain, but sometimes it's the easy way out.

www.geekradio.com/ Go to "Jay's Spyware Page" and he gives a great run down of what to do. I use his methods and have never had a problem. Technology Bytes is a local Call In Geek Radio show that I listen to just because it's on the Pacifica Network
