Convivial.
Twice in 2 days I have had someone use this term with me. Why can't they just say sociable? Is that so hard?
Noooooooo convivial. Its like being snobbishy sociable, which isn't sociable at all.
Just Sayin'

2 different family members said it to me
One in StL who is just a pinhead who likes big words. And one in SoCal who is a mega-genius and uses terms like that all the time. Either way, I shall now try to use it 5 times today! LOL

Ah yes, we are a crossword puzzle family. Words are our friends. At a family reunion you'll find and assortment of teachers, principals, and lawyers mixed in with 140+ IQ holders who haven't yet been able to figure out how to make it in the world, but have a terminology that woul rival most 5-day Jeopardy Champs. Either way, we're still a convivial bunch And that reminds me... WebMiss... whatever happened with the Jeopardy thing?

One in StL who is just a pinhead who likes big words. LOL! Definitely gotta avoid the pinheads who like big words. It's too hard keeping a straight face when you catch them usin' them big words wrong! (Yes, I know one of those.) --T

I feel like you guys are talking about me. J/K, although I used to get massive amounts of shit in the group for saying stuff like plethora, pretentious, condescending, antiquated, etc. I would try to explain to them that these words were, in fact, not THAT big and that it's not showing off if it is a part of MY everyday vocabulary and that I couldn't help it if Little Miss Insecure Sponsor of mine or Mr Fucking I Feel Threatened By Girls Who Are Smarter Than Me SC memeber didn't like it. I got told to "dumb it down" on more than one occasion and also had to remind people in the group that just because I used words they hadn't heard before(with their collective freshman year of high school education)didn't mean I was a freecan genius, just a wordy nerd.

Aww... no, not talking about you Dommie But, please... isn't there a better word here? I'll quote the email: The following week and weekend was taken up by a piano recital Richard gave here at the house on Sunday, 4/21. We had about 25 people and Richard played for about an hour -- pieces on his two harpsichords and piano, including a late sonata by Beethoven. I made the refreshments: three kinds of scones, three kinds of fritattas, a cake, cookies, cheeses, smoked salmon and cold asparagus. We had to rent some chairs and give the house a good cleaning, but it was worth it. It was all very convivial. ___ LOL.... yeah, Richard is his partner. And yeah, Richard BUILT the freecan harpsichords himself. They are too funny!

That looks like a letter written 150 years ago. Funny!!
I too had to dumb down while in the group. (believe it or not) I remember really catching shit for being pretentious (I'm sure that was not the word used LOL) even though I was simply speaking english as I had learned it. Hell, it's happened out in the real world also, just not to the extreme as in the group.

No way, those aren't even close to big words, and they aren't nearly as pretentious or condescending as convivial can be. LOL Those dipsh*ts had no right to treat you that way. That they had a problem with the word pretentious says something very sad about their willingness to even attempt to use their brains. And of course they had a reason to understand the word condescending, since they were that way so much of the time. Now, as for this (no offense to your relative GH): OK, I just have to laugh on this. No offense to your relative, GH, but the description of the food and the activities kinda made convivial fit right in (IMHO) . --T

I used the word "commiserate" in astaff meeting one time. It was an absolute fucking show stopper. Everyone looked at me like I was a freak of nature some even said "Dude, what did you mean by that?"(that is short for I don't understand) I repeated it and people were astounded that I didn't use "dude, man or fuckin'" in the same sentence. Afterwards someone told me not to "try to look so smart, and that no one was impressed" I thought to myself "What dumbfuck would be impressed by someone using the word commiserate?" Anyway, lesson learned and I tried from there on out to use words that contained only three syllables or less.

Exactly! Those words aren't even 'big". That reminds me of getting my ass kicked in third grade for reading a "big" book(it was Little Women), even though it's probably one of the easier reads for young kids, just a little long winded.
"No one here's impressed". Well you know what dumb shit, you outta be. Who knows where people like us would be if we hadn't been told we would die if we didn't drop out of school, or that college is the devil. Or hadn't wasted years of job experience we should've been storing up for the real world.
I remember Mike W. giving me shit one time cause I said "abhor" in a meeting. He said, "if you're trying to make yourself look better than everyone sweetheart, it ain't working. Why don't you get humble and not share in meetings for a month and listen to how your bros really talk." Then, I like Casper, made a decision to only use words like dude, man, bro, chicks, fuck, Higher Power and this one's pushing it for those fucktards: gratitude. God that place sucked the life out of us.
